SkyLine has received notification from the national and state organizations that youth leadership events they present annually and are sponsored locally by the cooperative have been cancelled for this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., which was slated for early June, and the Cooperative Council of North Carolina’s Cooperative Leadership Camp at White Lake, which was scheduled for mid-June, have been cancelled.
According to the FRS, the cancellation takes into consideration the safety of students, chaperones, staff, access to Capitol Hill and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as well as the restrictions Virginia’s Governor put in place on gatherings and curtailment of transportation.
The Cooperative Council of North Carolina made the final decision to cancel the annual camp program following the N.C. FFA’s announcement to close their facilities for the summer and where the annual leadership camp is held. In its statement from the Council, “we know this is the most prudent course of action to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our members, students, staff and families.”
